Tiffen Series 9 Black Diffusion/FX 1/4 Optical Filter
Tiffen’s Black Diffusion/FX filters soften fine detail and reduce the harsh, oversharpened look common on digital sensors, giving skin and texture a smoother appearance while keeping the wider image reasonably sharp. The 1/4 grade applies this effect at a light, restrained strength.
It’s built in Tiffen’s Series 9 (S9) round filter format, mounted with a Series 9 filter holder and adapter ring rather than a screw-in thread or 4×4 matte box tray, a mounting style used on many older and specialty cine lenses.
